Good thanks! It’s been a pretty crazy summer so I’m glad it’s all calmed down now heading into the autumn!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single When She Dances?
Sure! The track features Karen Harding who I’ve worked with several times. It’s a pretty euphoric sounding track and always goes down really well in my sets!
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Not really, I wanted to make something that really stood out and that was pretty different to anything else out there at the moment.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I had several videographers following me over the summer and have got some really cool footage from literally all over the world! I’m just waiting for some of that footage to get back to me so that we can look into the possibility of a video!
How was the recording and writing process?
With Karen we always work together really well. I had this beat going that I was making and more or less straight away Karen started writing to it. I then added the breaks in the track and the rest is history! It really came together very quickly!
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with or remixing someone else rather than in your own?
When working with others I always like for them to bring their vibe as well. I want the artist I’m working with to be happy with what we’re doing and not feel like it’s alien to them! I always like doing this as it helps to bring something different to the track that I might not have thought about otherwise.
Does the direction and sound changes on the label you release the music or remix?
Not really. I always do what I want to do. I think what usually happens when I have something unsigned is that the label which sounds best suited to the track is usually the one that takes it!
As you keep gaining success – does that put any pressure on you or rather the opposite?
It depends how you look at it and how you let it affect you. I’ve always said that I would have fun doing music and that was the most important thing. By doing that, I’m always enjoying the creative process rather than struggling with it to try and fit in.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I’ve got loads of material I’m currently working on, this is a great time of year for creating music and I usually spend the next few months just constantly in the studio creating, working with artists so there’ll deffo be a lot to come for next year!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
I have a forthcoming release on BigBeat/Atlantic in the next month or so. I’m also in the process of doing something with Idris Elba (watch this space)! I also have a new track forthcoming via my label “Stashed Music” especially for ADE. There’ll be a few more announcements to come too!
Any plans to hit the road?
Yeah for sure! This time of year for me is the only time I get to not worry about gigs for the next 2 months or so and solely concentrate on making music which I love. I will be doing some UK gigs for Xmas and New Year and then will be touring from next year.
What else is happening next in DJ SKT’s world?
Just a lot of hard work, prepping, production and working on my label “Stashed Music” and the live shows for next year!
