Hi Damian, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey guys, thank you for having me. I’m currently having a couple weeks break from touring so I’m currently writing and producing many new song ideas – always great fun.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Feel The Heat”?
It’s a very energetic, powerful one. I wanted to write a motivating song which gives people the courage to paddle their own canoe, focus on themselves and ignore their critics.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Well, throughout your career you come across people which do not believe in you as an artist or the songs you write – it’s quite a usual thing I guess and maybe that’s also important because it motivates you to write even better songs and improve. “Feel the Heat” is a gentle way to tell your critics they were wrong but at the same time also a thank-you for lighting that fire to improve yourself.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
The video is already out on Youtube. It’s quite a special one and worth to watch I guess. The film crew really put me to the test and wanted to let me feel that heat I’m singing about. I really did not know what they had planned but they took me to the Sahara desert in Africa and let me run around and perform there – a very special experience. A couple days later they even went one step further and set my whole body on fire. It was crazy and freaking hot.
How was the recording and writing process?
Well, I came up with that riff which is really defining the song – throughout the song it’s only that one riff basically – except for the bridge. I really liked it, even though I first played it on an old classical guitar – but I knew it definitely had that power I wanted to transmit with the song. I finally wrote and recorded the song with my mate Lars The Music Guy, with whom I’ve been working a lot together.
What role does Switzerland play in your writing?
I think the environment is always very crucial in the writing process. Switzerland has beautiful landscapes, lakes and mountains – it’s amazing. Definitely very inspiring and also good for a short break. I share a fishing boat with some friends on the lake of Lucerne – just five minutes away from my studio. It always gives me a lot of motivation and energy to go back afterwards and work on songs.
How Dr. Dre and Rage Against The Machine has influence your music?
I listened to a lot of crossover music in my youth. Rage Against The Machine and Limp Bizkit were two of my favorites. Later I listened to a lot of Hip Hop and Rap music. A class-mate once played me the DMX, Dr. Dre and Methodman & Redman albums of his older brother and I liked them. I still listen to Rap music a lot and it definitely has an influence on my own songs.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Sure, I’m always working on new material and can’t wait to show it to the world.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
No specific date yet but there will definitely be new tunes coming at the beginning of next year.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’m currently having some time off from touring to write and produce on new material. But I will definitely be back on the road sooner than later.
What else is happening next in Damian Lynn’s world?
Locking myself in my studio, finding new sounds and focus on writing and producing a lot of new songs.
