Hi Jess, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey! Thank you! I have been fab, super busy but its been great 🙂

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Bittersweet”?

Bittersweet is a track I wrote last year, it started as a rant in my songwriting book about a situation I was incredibly frustrated and upset about, and turned into something pretty special. Obseen produced the track over the past year and wrote this sick guitar solo based off my melody and took it to another level! I am super proud of the debut.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Ahhh yes very much. I write a lot of my songs surrounding real life scenarios that occur in my life. Bittersweet was about an on and off relationship I had that was at its last straw. I was incredibly frustrated, angry, and hurt not only with him but myself too. It carried on for way longer than it should have, so the song was pretty much my emotional outlet. It asks the questions I never really asked him in the end!

I think everyone can relate to the situation though, questioning everything that went wrong in a relationship and ending up completely frustrated.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Not for this one no, but for my next single I have already started planning for a music video, super excited!

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process came super natural to me; what started as a rant turned into a chorus. I then wrote a verse to it that made the song sound completely different to what it is now. I kind of left the song because it sounded pretty average, but then came back to it and wrote a verse to match the killer chorus and to tell a better story.

Obseen produced the track, we recorded everything in his studio tucked away in the Southern Highlands. He spent a lot of time producing and reproducing the track, there has been many, many different versions before this one!

What role does Australia play in your writing?

Living in Australia inspires me as I am often writing lyrics outside in the sunshine or down at my local beach. Australian music also inspires my writing, there are some incredible Australian pop artists that are killing it, like Cxloe, Wafia, and Vera Blue, and also songwriters as well like Ben Abraham and Alex Hope who write great pop music.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I have a new single out very soon, I just got the fresh master back actually.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Oooh I can mention too much now, but ~~November~~

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! Locking in some more support slots for later in the year, but definitely have plans to be playing a heap of shows in early 2019, stay turned on my socials for show info!

What else is happening next in Ivori’s world?

Constantly writing!!! I am working towards an EP, to be release in 2019, so a lot of my time is spent either writing or planning. I have so much material I am working on that I can’t wait to share 🙂
