LUCIA release video for new single ‘Summertime’
Having recently released their critically acclaimed new single ‘Summertime’, produced by Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Adele) and mixed by Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Florence), Glaswegian indie rock four-piece LUCIA today unveil the 90’s inspired video for the single. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSKyZupZ_vs
The video was self directed by band members Lucia Fairfull (voxs & guitar) and Hamish Fingland (guitar) and filmed by two of their friends, Neelam Khan Vela and Connaire McCann. Speaking about the making of the video Lucia explains, “We shot in a lavender field outside of London during the hottest month of summer, and also in Cyprus in the Aphrodite hills, the birthplace of the ‘Goddess of Love’. The video is ‘a flash before your eyes’ on the way to heaven. It is the end of a season, the end of a relationship, and the end of you.”
‘Summertime’ covers the age-old theme of failing summertime romance but does so whilst remaining packed with breezy teenage glee. Released on August 16th on Sweet Jane Recordings, ‘Summertime’ was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday and The Indie List playlists racking up over 100K+ streams and hit the top 10 on Hype Machine. Speaking about the new single front woman Lucia Fairfull explains, “‘Summertime’ was influenced by classic love films and my years as a teenager. It comes across as a happy bubble-gum dream pop song showing my love 60s girl groups like ‘The Ronettes’ and ‘Lesley Gore’, but the lyrics portray a more dark and grunge story of summer flings ending in broken hearts.”
With the sweetness of bubblegum pop, the easy swagger of classic college rock, Phil Spector’s widescreen ambition, and the gritty rumblings of the best riot grrrl and grunge, LUCIA have won the hearts of music-lovers, critics and fellow artists with just a couple of releases and a few years of relentless touring. This is modern rock n’ roll driven by instinct alone. The perfect soundtrack for a teenage dream.
From being discovered as a busker on the streets of Glasgow to playing with the likes of Black Honey, The Big Moon, Neon Waltz and The Undertones, their DIY spirit and knack for a dreamwave banger now finds them working with Arctic Monkeys and Florence + The Machine collaborators and coming to a town near you.
LUCIA, fronted by guitar goddess Lucia Fairfull, have been name checked as “one to watch” by Wonderland Magazine, “one of the UK’s brightest young bands” – Drowned In Sound and praised by NYLON, The Line Of Best, DIY, DORK and many more. Radio support has come by way of BBC Radio 1 – championed by Huw Stephens – “this is as good as indie gets”, Phil Taggart and BBC Introducing, Radio X, Amazing Radio amongst others.
‘Summertime’ is the follow-up to LUCIA’s recent single ‘Melted Ice-cream’ and debut ‘Best Boy’ EP that was released on Glasgow indie label Dead Beet Records.
