Nakala releases You Don’t Know

South Coast based Nakala and long-term production partner Brad Baker are a powerhouse duo, with their debut single Paris, surpassing 4 million streams which is no mean feat for a debut. They have been perfecting their sound together for over 6 years, fusing together their eclectic influences to create something truly special.

Earlier this year, Nakala’s debut EP Owe It To You was met by similar reception, garnering over 2.5 million streams on Spotify which caught the attention of heavyweight curators and label Majestic Casual, who went on to release follow up Do It Right. Each release see’s another support milestone for her, with track Sumthin leading her to become BBC 1xtra Artist Of The Week as well as backing by tastemaker Jamz Supernova for her feature on Actor by emerging artist Ayelle.

The songstress has been building a solid catalogue by releasing consistently, taking influence from the likes Usher and Ne-Yo, alongside producer Brad who’s influences are noted as Frank Ocean and Bryson Tiller. Together they bring all the right flavours to make contemporary nu-RnB with an energetic and nostalgic twist likened to that of 90’s RnB.

You Don’t Know as described by Nakala is a track that came about after a night in the club:

“This beautiful girl that I’d never spoken to was on the dance floor with her fiancé and friends but she couldn’t get off her phone and looked miserable. I wrote ‘You Don’t Know’ the next night.”

Starting out its journey in a sparse atmosphere, ethereal vocal loops and punchy club drums create the backbone to this alt-R&B end of summer cut, warmed by Nakala‘s honeyed vocals. As the track progresses, layers of production and vocal harmony fill your ears with the track’s immersive romanticism, all while the rhythm maintains an infectious energetic groove.
