Hi Emma, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Great! Busy but thoroughly enjoying it!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “One Last Drink”?

“One Last Drink” is actually a song I wrote a couple years ago while I was finishing college. I was in school at SCAD in Savannah, GA, and there was a few months in the spring where I was just writing a ton of songs that I was really excited about. This was one of them! I had this concept about how people and the weather have a way of toying with our emotions, pulling us in with all this anticipation of the unknown. Savannah is such a magical city that time of year that it’s hard not to be inspired!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Basically long distance communication, daydreaming about all the things you yearn to experience with someone, but having this distance that’s limiting you.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! I’m super excited about a lyric video we have in the works, which will be released within the next couple weeks. I was really happy with the way the album art and the social promos turned out – so it’ll be similar to those visuals, just with a little more punch!

How was the recording and writing process?

Writing this song was a breeze. It was one of those songs that I basically wrote in one 30-minute sitting. I knew as I was writing it that I wanted to get a demo recorded. I sent the first 2 verses and chorus to a friend at school that produced some music, and we got into the studio. It wasn’t until we were finishing up the demo that I wrote the bridge, which is probably my favorite part of the song! I flipped the lyrics from a Def Leppard song – “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – it’s one of my all time favorite songs, and I like how seductive and coy it is. This was one of the first demos I sent to my producer, Jake Vicious, and essentially this song is the reason that we started working together. We’re both super excited about the way it came out!

What role does DC play in your music?

When I was in school I would come up and spend the summers here with my sister. This was around the time that I was transitioning from writing more folk/singer-songwriter work to writing more pop and hip-hop influenced songs. The city holds a lot of good memories for me from when I was younger, and at times now, it honestly feels surreal that I live in such a gorgeous city with so much history!

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

For sure! I’m always writing, and I have some new and older songs in production for my EP. I’m hoping to drop the project within the next few months, but definitely another single before that!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Right now we’re playing around with a few of the song titles for the EP. There’s one song in particular that I’m releasing in a few months that’s definitely in the running! The title is “To you; For me”, the song is a sort of coming to Jesus moment, when all of a sudden you realize that you need to let go of something that’s holding you back, and consciously decide to choose yourself again. The song holds a lot of meaning for me and I think it encapsulates the EP as a whole. Looking to release the full EP at the end of the year, or early 2019.

Will you keep diving into the different seasons on this new material?

I imagine! As a writer, the change in seasons always inspires me, and I’m a big believer in seasonal music- Everyone wants to listen to upbeat, fun tracks during the spring and summer, and slower more emotional songs in the fall and winter. You can’t argue with Mother Nature!

Any plans to hit the road?

Not at this very moment but I definitely would love to be on the road by the end of the year. I’m really excited and encouraged by the response “One Last Drink” has gotten thus far! Would love to begin touring and open for some of my musical icons – like The Neighborhood, MUNA, and Banks just to name a few!

What else is happening next in Emma Remelle’s world?

I’ll be continuing to work on my EP and have a collab coming out very soon as well! I teamed up with the artist and producer DeModa to be the vocal feature on a single from his upcoming EP. The sound of the song is a little electronica and little ambient – a perfect laid-back vibe! You can keep up with him on twitter at @DeModa_Music  – and be sure to follow him on Spotify and Apple music too, so you don’t miss our new project!

I’ll be dropping the lyric video for “One Last Drink” very soon, plus doing gigs in the DC and NYC area – so keep an eye out for me if you’re in town!

Until then, you can follow me on all my socials at @EmmaRemelle <3
