Manchester’s Whyte Horses rework a Todd Rundgren’s classic

Whyte Horses drop another sonic treat ahead of their Royal Festival Hall show on 13 September, in the form of new single ‘I Saw the Light’ via CRC Records. The song is a cover of Todd Rundgren’s 1972 classic pop hit but sparkling with Whyte Horses psych-pop charm and laced with Mélanie Pain’s syrupy vocals, giving the cover the kitsch 60’s French-pop charisma the Whyte Horses are known and loved for.

The single follows, but is not taken from, Whyte Horses second album Empty Words (out now on CRC Records) which garnered much praise, with The Guardian describing it as “just lovely” **** and BBC Radio 6 Music making it ‘Record of the Week’ after much championing from the likes of Lauren Laverne – among many others.

Whyte Horses bring their spectacular multi-media live show known as the Whyte Horses Experience to Royal Festival Hall on 13 September, alongside many Special Guests including La Roux, Badly Drawn Boy, Mélanie Pain (Nouvelle Vague), members of the The Go! Team and St. Barts Choir. Dom Thomas of Whyte Horses has described the forthcoming event as “like The Velvet Underground sound-tracking a Stan Brakhage film. The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour with an Exploding Plastic Inevitable-inspired lightshow.”

‘I Saw the Light’ was produced by Dave Pemberton at MMC Studios, Greater Manchester.

LIVE DATES:

13 September: Royal Festival Hall, London
(With Special Guests Badly Drawn Boy, La Roux, Mélanie Pain, St Barts Choir and members of The Go! Team)
