Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Way I Love You”?
I co-wrote the song with Lenny Harold (formerly of Blackstreet), who’s also an amazing singer and songwriter. When I created the track I wanted to capture what I feel is a really common sentiment, loving someone and feeling like they don’t love you in the same way. Often times this is felt on both sides simultaneously, with both parties feeling that they are on the right side of the narrative. I’m also a huge fan of heavy distorted 808s and the whole backbone of this track is built around that.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
I would say that all of my relationships probably played some part in the lyrical direction. But I also did just recently go through a pretty heavy breakup, and that definitely I influenced me.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We’re currently story boarding and will have a video released sometime next month. I’ve been fortunate enough to have some really talented videographers around me as of late, and we’re working hard to make this video amazing 🙂
How was the recording and writing process?
I produced the song myself in my Williamsburg studio, the Audio Parlour. I had written a song with Lenny Harold months ago and ended up using the verse from that song on this track. I played all of the instruments and tend to stay away from using loops and samples lately, partly because I’m now hearing so many productions using the same samples. Although I think we ended up using a tribal vocal sample in there somewhere, but that’s it. I also mixed and mastered that track.
What role does NYC play in your writing?
I grew up here, and have been in Brooklyn for the past 10 years. NYC is the most dynamic, diverse place on earth, the energy here is palpable and inspiring. I built a small room out in West Hollywood where I go to work every month or so also, but Brooklyn is home.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
I currently have a ton a material stowed away and am going to be releasing another single in a few weeks. I’m always writing and collaborating, and I feel that it’s important to keep releasing material consistently to see what works and what doesn’t.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
The next single is titled ‘Heartbeat Confidential’ and is one of my favorite tracks so far, next to Way I Love U. I’ll be releasing it in a few weeks.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’ll be performing locally for the next few months.
What else is happening next in Kevin Andreas’ world?
I initially broke into the industry singing the hook on Asap Rocky’s Peso a few years ago, and since then have always loved producing for myself as well as other artists. So I’m working with a bunch of artists around the globe on their projects. I also am scoring music for a short film and working on a side project called F.A.K.T. with three of NYCs best rappers/singers. It’s really dynamic music with a message. Staying busy for sure!
