Vivienne Chi Releases “Under Your Skin”

Bristol-born, London-based artist Vivienne Chi weaves together influence from a lifetime of immersion in eclectic music into her poised and boundary pushing alt-pop. Her upbringing in Spain forged this carefree, limitless attitude to her music but lacked a platform for musical growth, and at 18 she took the leap to London pursue her passion. Her affinity for music was found at just 8 years old and she’s been honing her craft ever since, drawing influence from the likes of En Vogue, Portishead, Massive Attack, Kate Bush, Prince and D’Angelo.

Lyrically she pulls focus to themes of escapism, belonging, heartache and excess. She spins an honest and introspective narrative that’s brought into balance by the experimental and often euphoric instrumentals provided by long-term producer Harry Tarlton (Sonny, Tom Misch). Their synergy effortlessly turns heads and catches ears, with recent releases seeing support from the likes of heavyweight tastemakers The Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine and Atwood Magazine. The support was echoed across the board, with appearances on BBC Introducing, playlist placements on high impact UMA and Hipnotrix Spotify playlists, and reaching the coveted #1 spot on Hype Machine.

Under Your Skin sees Vivienne continue to be unbound by musical borders, leaning more into electronic flavours than she has before. Part of a forthcoming triptych release, Vivienne incorporates grooving elements of future house that provide a sublime foundation for her to engross you in multiple layers of her honeyed voice. While this may be an instrumental departure from previous releases, the genius is in her ability to retain a sound unmistakably hers no matter the genre.

On the motivation behind Under Your Skin, Vivienne Chi shares “‘Under Your Skin’ speaks of the realisation of a lost connection due to circumstance, London lifestyle, over-doing it, wanting to escape it all and take a journey somewhere. Harry & I wrote the whole track in a couple of hours, it fell into our laps.” Listen here
