Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Younger Sun”?
It’s my debut single with my own singing, before that I’d been making instrumental music or producing music for popular artists in my country (Slovakia). I am very happy about it and how it turned out.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
It was actually a quite spontaneous impulse, I was recording a different song when I accidentally played the first chord of the opening guitar riff in Younger Sun and I loved how it sounded, I began playing with it and over the course of approximately two months it became what it became.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Not yet, right now I want to only focus on the music and nothing else.
How was the recording and writing process?
Bittersweet. I’m quite a perfectionist and since it’s my first song with singing there was a lot of re-recording. I also care about this song deeply and had a very exact idea of what I wanted it to sound like so I had to work very hard to meet that idea. I almost lost my mind mixing it, it never sounded right.
What role does Slovakia play in your music?
It is my home and I love it. I do think it is quite unique in many aspects and for me personally very inspiring too. Also, there’s not any music like this over here so it makes me feel kind of free. Like a lone bird, just making my music and being completely on my own.
Where do you personally borrow your inspiration for the whole melancholic elements in your music?
Life. I think a lot.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Definitely. I’m always working on music, so there’s always new material you can expect. While I was working on Younger Sun I drew some first drafts of a next single and I’m very excited to get down to it, it sounds great and the lyrical theme is very important to me.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
I never set deadlines or dates for myself when it comes to releasing music – I release it when it’s ready, when I’m satisfied with it. So when it’s done, it’ll go out.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’d love to! For now I’ll be playing local shows and building a stage presence and when I get the chance I would definitely like to bring my music abroad as well.
What else is happening next in Homes’ world?
I’ll be starting the second year of my psychology studies at university soon and besides that it’s pretty much just my music, my contemplations, my girlfriend and living life.
Thank you so much for the interview! All the best to you and your readers.
