The apex of Whoa Dakota’s empowerment comes on “Animal,” which finds her embracing her agency through two powerful firsts: acknowledging herself as capable and finding a healthy, meaningful relationship.

Woven through warm guitar riffs and subtle synths, the track illustrates the impact that both standing your ground as well as fulfilling intimacy can have on your experience of yourself. Describes Ott: “I used to be so passive in all areas of my life.  Creatively, I let other people sit in the driver’s seat and romantically I would accept mistreatment.

We’re not conditioned to ensure that our needs are met, so it’s truly groundbreaking to finally have a partner attentive to all of mine.”
