INTERVIEW: Thorisson

Hi Thorisson, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m great, thanks for asking!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “How Long”? Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Moving to a new country is always inspiring. I first got the idea for How Long when I had just moved to England. It was a challenging experience and the main inspiration for this song.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

I didn’t have a lot of free time when the video had to be made, so I made the decision to not feature in it myself at all. I hired a team to shoot it for me according to my directions and they did a fantastic job!

How was the recording and writing process?

It’s been a long journey. I started writing the melodies towards the end of 2016 when I had just moved to England and completely forgot about it until I needed a project for uni. That’s when I started getting serious with it and got Olly in for the vocals. The recording process was a lot of fun as it was the first time I really recorded every instrument instead of only using synths and samples.

What role does Iceland still play in your music?

I still spend a lot of time there over the holidays and summers, so I work with Icelandic artists just as much as English ones.

How have you gotten to balance those exotic landscapes with the much metropolitan vibe of England?

I haven’t used the Icelandic nature as much as I should to be honest. The music video for How Long was shot in Serbia, but the Icelandic landscape is definitely something I’m looking to feature more in my future videos.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with or remixing someone else rather than in your own?

Of course, different projects require different approaches but it all depends on the task I get.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Absolutely. Right now, I’m working on a synthwave project with some outstanding Icelandic artists which is the direction I’m looking to take my music to in the next months.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I can’t give out too many details at the moment but we’re looking at a September release.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’ll be playing at the first ever EDM-based Icelandic music festival, Plur fest on the 25th as well as a few smaller gigs in England.

What else is happening next in Thorisson’s world?

I’ll be getting my bachelor’s from Solent University in music production next year and I’m thrilled with all the new opportunities I’ve been getting recently so the future is looking really exciting.
