The Most Famous Singers Who Play Poker

Because of the huge stakes involved in poker, the game usually attracts some of the wealthiest individuals around, including famous musicians. When you consider tournaments such as the World Series of Poker 2012 competition, which had the largest ever cash prize of over $18 million, it’s no wonder the top stars are are often involved. We have taken a look at some of the most well known musicians to have tried their hands at poker:

Nelly

Nelly rose to prominence way back in the year 2000 with his first solo album, Country Grammar. The St. Louis rapper has gone on to release a multitude of chart topping hits in his career, but in recent years, he has taken a step back from the music industry. One of his newfound passions happens to be poker, and he has competed in a range of tournaments, including the World Series of Poker 2007 Championship and the PokerStars European Tour.

Scott Ian

Scott Ian is one of the pioneers of the thrash rock genre of music from his time as a guitarist and vocalist in the hugely successful band, Anthrax. He first took part in a charity Texas Hold ‘Em tournament for VH back in 2006 and ended up winning the whole thing, despite never having gambled or played poker in his life. He then went on to compete in the 2008 and 2009 World Series of Poker Championships, as well as the Aruba Poker Classic.

Steve Albini

Steve Albini is a world-renown guitarist and recording engineer, and has been involved in the production of over 1000 albums, having worked with acts such as PJ Harvey, Nirvana and the Pixies. When he’s not in the studio, he’s a big time poker player, competing in tournaments in the USA and in Europe. In 2013, he finished in a very impressive 12th place at the World Series of Poker Championship, and more recently he actually won his first WSOP tournament in the Seven Card Event.

Frank Sinatra

Frank Sinatra was not only one of the most influential singers of the 20th century, he was also one of the highest selling musicians of all time, with over 150 million records sold worldwide. He was also synonymous with the world of casino, and was often seen entertaining guests and playing the most popular card games, including poker.
