Colyn Cameron (Wake Owl) Announces Debut Solo Album

Having releasing two albums on Vagrant Records and one independently as the acclaimed indie-pop outfit Wake Owl, singer-songwriter Colyn Cameron returns with his debut solo album Sad & Easy set for release on October 12th. Self-produced and recorded direct to 1/2″ tape in his small Los Angeles studio apartment, the album is an outpour of his artistic experimentation, fusing psychedelic influences of the late ‘60s and calling to mind the likes of David Vandervelde and Christopher Owens.

Today, he shares the first single Loss For Wordsalongside a new video filmed in the Mojave Desert town of Needles, California. A potent journey into the heart of what the song represents, the video was shot on 16mm film over the course of 48 hours. Watch here

“This song is about being less serious with what might seem the saddest thing. Total misunderstanding within total simplicity and beauty,” Colyn comments. Can you imagine feeding a cherry to someone in order to overcome hopelessness? My friend Robert thought it would be nice to drive to Needles, CA and all the while collect neglected fruits that could revive and surprise like the strangeness of Highway 40.”

Following an international tour and the release of Wake Owl’s last album Kaleidoscopes in 2017, Colyn returned to a rather average lifestyle, uncovering the muse that would guide his first solo release during the downtime of his 9-5. After spending the last 10 years living in different places and always feeling a little restless, Colyn found a home base in Los Angeles, one that felt alive enough to quell desire to flee, while still keeping a challenge in the foreground.

Sad & Easy is a collection of songs that arose from the experience of being firmly rooted in one place, allowing for a more patient approach to writing and recording. A culmination of his daily persistence, experimentation, and philosophical/literary studies, the album sees Colyn Cameron emerge with his most ambitious work to date.
