Jerry Paper today releases “Grey Area”, the second single from his forthcoming album Like A Baby, featuring singer-songwriter Weyes Blood. Listen here:

Lucas Nathan, aka Jerry Paper, describes “Grey Area” as“a song about the incessant feeling of being in-between. I find myself waiting for stability, waiting for THE moment, and all I ever really feel is that I am living inside continual transitions. The song explores the discomfort of life as process.”

Like A Baby, Jerry Paper’s first album for Stones Throw, is due out on October 12, 2018. For the album, Nathan brought on several collaborators including Matty Tavares of BadBadNotGood as co-producer, Weyes Blood, Mild High Club’s Alex Brettin, and vocalistCharlotte Day Wilson. You can pre-order it here:

Inspired by a move from NYC back to Nathan’s hometown of LA, Like A Baby explores existential themes tied to “the endless human cycle of desire and satisfaction.” Nathan cites a vast pool of influences on his hazy, distorted universe of music, from fellow pop outliers Prefab Sprout, Todd Rundgren and Steely Dan (“a deep source of inspiration for me”) to classic R&B, Stereolab, avant-garde Brazilian music, and Japanese electronica.

First single “Your Cocoon” is available now as a 7”backed with the song “New Chains (demo)”. Watch the psychedelic video for “Your Cocoon”, featuring a 3D-animated Nathan, here:

Jerry Paper has shared the stage with the likes of Mac DeMarco, BadBadNotGood, Mild High Club and more. On stage, Nathan is rounded out by five musicians who accompany his vocals and wiggling on bass, drums, guitar, synths, and saxophone.

This October, Jerry Paper will tour with Stones Throw label-mates Kiefer, Prophet and Stimulator Jones (and one show w/ Mndsgn as well). See below for a full list of confirmed dates.
