Good thanks… trying to find the balance and stay creative
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Round and Round”?
Round and Round is a summer banger that is lyrically charged as well as being smooth and soulful. It features Rakaa iriscience from the iconic Dilated Peoples and is produced by Roeg Du Casq. Shot in both London and LA it documents the link up and workings of myself and Rakaa while we spit social commentary back to back in these iconic locations. Bridging culture and scenes through hiphop.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Simply the prospect of working with one of my idols gave me the inspiration but conceptually as a song the content was built off the vocal sample in the hook.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
It was an epic experience shooting the visual. We linked in London before a Dilated Peoples show to get performance shots together then flew out the week after to get shots in LA and chill with Rakaa.
The organization and post production was the hardest part and tested me too the limits as an artist/director trying to manifest my vision. It definitely paid off in the end 🙂
What was it like to work with Rakaa Iriscience and what did he brought up to the table?
Was very dope and smooth working with Rakaa. Super humble person and mad skilled at his craft. He showed how its done in the booth and was inspiring to see. Helped me grow and step my game up in order to finish the tune and fit nicely together.
How was the recording and writing process?
Recording process was dope and all done at Nugen studios. Energy levels were high in the room, we came up with the hook together laying our vocals on top of each other.
With the concept in mind we pre wrote a verse each before linking up and going to the studio.
After laying it that day I went away and wrote the 3rdverse and then mixed the rest + added my cuts.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than on your own?
This instance pushed me as an artist making me step up in the booth. There was a healthy element of pressure to deliver. With this the focus was on smooth flow and tone to really fit the vibe of track. Bouncing ideas back and forth in the studio really helped develop the song. In the writing process I tried to think with both of us in mind instead of a solo point of view. I like the way it came out!!
Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes indeed. This is one of the lead singles off my LP with more videos to come. The project will drop later this year.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Special announcement will be made very soon!
Any plans to hit the road?
Yeah, have already been travelling around doing shows in UK, Europe and Asia this year but I aim to be lining up tours and dates for an LP tour.
