INTERVIEW: Kimberly Kelly

Hi Kimberly, welcome to VENTS!

Hi! Thank you for having me.

How have you been?

Great, things have just been crazy finishing up my EP, but good!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Some Things Have A Name”?

“Some Things Have A Name” is country music to me. The content of the song, it’s got a little bit of sass, and the way the recording turned out makes it sound like a modern classic.

What stood out to you about this song?

When I first heard “Some Things Have A Name,” it had all the elements I love in a country song, and it sounded like something I would’ve written, so I knew it had to be on the EP.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I’ve got something in mind, but it might be a minute before I can pull it all together. I did a music video for the title track of the EP, but I wanted “Some Things Have A Name” to have its moment, so I decided to put it out ahead of everything else.

How was the recording and writing process?

We (my producer and I) loved the song already, but when we were recording the keys player had an idea to put an old time “strings section” pad on it, and when he did it took on a whole new sound— it came alive.

What role does Texas play in your writing?

I started writing songs BECAUSE I’m from Texas. “If you’re gonna play in Texas, you’ve got to have a fiddle in the band…” and the same goes for songwriting— If you’re gonna play in Texas, you’ve got to write some of your own songs.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material? If so, how’s that coming along?

Yes, a 5 song EP including “Some Things Have A Name” will be out August 31st— titled “Don’t Blame It On Me”.

Any plans to hit the road?

Workin’ on it! I’m finishing up a summer house concert tour, but hope to get in some other venues with the new music!

What else is happening next in Kimberly Kelly’s world?

I’m just going to enjoy this time and celebrate this milestone. I funded this project with an Indiegogo campaign, and it took me a year to finish it after it was funded. I’m excited to share it with everyone that pledged. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it, and I hope they’re proud of what they helped me do.  We’ve got a lot of content to roll out with it, so looking forward to that!

Look out for Kimberly Kelly’s single, “Some Things Have A Name” coming out August 17! In the meantime, you can keep up with her on FacebookTwitter and Instagram.
