INTERVIEW: Davina Moss

Jordi Cervera |

Hi Davina, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello there! I am doing great. Sun is shining over Ibiza, life is good!

Can you talk to us more about your single for the new Sola Ibiza 2018 compilation?

Psychedehouse is a really special track to me. It’s like a blend of house, tech house, and some psy trance sounds. I enjoy mixing the genres and styles. I like to be original and creative by adding the little touch that makes my sound a bit special.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yes, both Circocolo @Dc10 and Burning Man! The craziest ones hehehe

How was the recording and writing process?

Totally smooth. All of it was done in my studio in Ibiza. I live near the beach, in a forest where making music is almost magical. I come up quite quickly with material; I usually write my track in 1 day or 2. Then the mix takes a bit longer … I’m fortunate enough that the ideas pop up easily. I always start early in the morning, then I don’t even notice the day is almost over.

What have been some of your favourite Ibiza moments this year?

I love pre-openings. Those early, magical moments when everybody is coming to Ibiza and they’re full of joy, love and happiness – right before we get too many people on the island. We have amazing parties, pre-openings and openings. Also, the Zoo project opening was, for me, one of the best, as well as Paradise’s and Circoloco @Dc10’s.

What role does Ibiza play in your music?

Actually, it plays all the roles you could think of! It’s my inspiration. Here, all year round you can listen to the best DJs any time of the day or night. Everybody comes over to perform, and so the best clubs with the best sound systems can be found here, which is so inspirational for me. Ibiza has heavily contributed to building the Davina Moss musical persona. From the smallest bar to villa parti es to huge clubs, all House music subgenres are represented here on a permanent basis.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

The inspiration and lyrics were partially influenced by past experiences. I used to make psy trance, which I did for 15 years before switching to House music, so I guess I still have some remnants left inside that are begging to get out of me sometimes. So my past and my present are merged in this single.

Any plans to hit the road?

I have lots of gigs outside the island. I’m due to perform in Greece, the BPM festival in Portugal , the UK and so on.

What else is happening next in Davina Moss’ world?

In my world, there are lots of new releases, shows and big surprises coming up this year. I have produced a lot in the past few months, and so much new music is on its way. Some of it is fully underground tech house, and then some is a bit more deep-oriented, or even mainstream ; my music will be out on some of today’s most respected labels. As I said previously, and I’ll stress it again, I love to play with all sorts of sounds, rhythms and styles, so I am not stuck in one genre only. I love to mix everything, as long as it’s good!
