INTERVIEW: Chicago pop artist Matt LeGrand

Hi Matt, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

A: Hey Vents!! It feels so great to answer some more questions for you! I honestly can’t be doing any better. It’s such a great time in my life right now! My career is on an exciting track and I get to do what I love today! I hope you all have been just as good and thank you again for having me!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “12:00am“?

A: I can’t believe this is finally out! I am so thrilled for the public to finally have access to this song! Imagine if you could only see the one you love for one hour every twenty-four hours. How would you two spend your minutes? For me, this is what “12:00AM” is about. Cherishing every second with the person that lifts you to that other level! The specific time of 12AM is important because it symbolizes a fresh start and a new day filled with new opportunities!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

A: It’s really just a simple song about wanting to see the one you miss and it was written by a great team in Atlanta! I immediately connected with it as I believe others will too because we all miss someone at some point. I’m a big fan of “12:00AM” and I’m happy that I’m the one that gets to tell the story!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

A: Of course! It’s coming!!!

How was the recording and writing process?

A: 12:00AM took only 3 hours to write and record to completion! When things line up beautifully, it’s sometimes just that easy. It was such an organic and natural process that felt like it was custom made just for me to tell the story! It also makes it easy when you’re working with the top dogs!

Has your approach changed this time around for this particular album?

A: It hasn’t really changed much. My approach has always been open and willing to try new things and expand my comfort zone! I’ve worked so hard to get to this point where I am ready to be put into play. I know that there are many more mistakes to happen and learn from but I also know that there are some really beautiful moments of connection ahead as well!

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

A: It most definitely means new material! I’ve been all over the place recording new songs and it’s going really well! The process has never been smoother then it is right now. I’m eager to show everyone but I know everything has it’s time and place if it’s got a reason to be heard. I have to be patient and I hope my audience can be as well!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

A: No one tells me anything around here! Lol No but seriously the team is working very hard and there will be something!

What’s been like to work with Bryant Reid and what has he brought to the table?

A: Bryant is hard working and is a person that I trust with my vision. His reputation speaks for itself and his passion for music is so pure. Some of my favorite times are when we just simply listen to music and talk about it. Yes, we are in a very competitive business but at the end of the day it’s about the music and how it moves us! Outstanding persistence, passion and hard work are what Bryant brings to the table and I’m glad he is on my side!

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

A: For me, I have to leave room for others when I am collaborating. I need to see their vision. I need to see how they see the world. I need to see how they co-exist with society. I have to let go of the controlling part of myself that can easily creep up on me. Only then is it a collaboration!

Any plans to hit the road?

A: I know it’s coming, I just don’t have exact dates right now!

What else is happening next in Matt LeGrand’s world?

A: New Video, EP Album, exciting partnerships, and touring! The Matt LeGrand train is leaving the station.
