Hi Aries, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! Thank you! I’ve been great! Just trying to enjoy the summer a little bit!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “I Met A Metaphorical Boy”?

Of course! So this song is the 1st single off of my EP, and it is one of my favorite songs. It’s about meeting someone for the first time and it was everything that you dreamed of. After you get to know that person, you realize he/she should only stay in your fantasy land and is only a metaphorical person. Because he/she is not what you think he/she actually is.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yes! So I met a boy who I thought wouldn’t have existed. At first sight, he’s everything I dreamt of back in high school. I thought he’d only be in my dreams. After I got to know him, I found out that he’s the opposite from everything I want in a guy. He’s not the one for me. He is only a metaphorical boy after all.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! I will have some motion graphics and visuals for this song.

How was the recording and writing process?

After the initial inspiration, I just sat down in my studio and start picturing what I want to go for with this song, and start working on it. I did have some hard time towards to end of the writing process. It was just so many ideas that I wanted to put down, so many versions… I probably had 7 versions for this song. I had to pick and choose what’s the best for my vision and for this song. Just had to make it work.

What role does LA play in your music?

LA plays a big part in my music. After college I moved here, everything I’ve experienced, everyone that I met who inspired me to write music is all happening in LA. It is the capital of entertainment and electronic music.

How has video games and Anime influenced your writing?

These are the 2 things I enjoy besides music. They help me with my sounds and set up certain moods for me and my music. I’m big on story telling, and some of the games and Anime align with how I approach writing music, and inspires me to better tell stories through my own music.  It also helps me relax and recharge after a long day, which is always a good thing!

What role does your time in Berklee has influence you as a musician?

Berklee helped me a lot. Especially the people. Teachers were really helpful, and helped me develop myself as an artist and as a musician. I got to choose what I wanted to focus on, and they support whatever you choose to do and give you guidance. My friends, and every student at Berklee, they are so inspiring. Always grinding, always practicing, always finding a way to be better. They inspire me everyday and my friends have been helping me every step of the way. They make me want to always improve, want to be a better version of myself, someone who is better than who I was yesterday.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

YES! This EP and some more singles after that! It’s all waiting to be released right now.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Late August!

Any plans to hit the road?

We are still planning on it! I hope to share with you guys with the dates and cities soon!

What else is happening next in Aries Deng’s world?

Haha good question! hmm… After this EP, it’s gonna be more music and more shows of course. MORE MUSIC!
