Raelyn doesn’t only proudly share the name of her legendary Papa Willie she also shares his trailblazing spirit as she continues to forge her own path with not one but two musically genre-bending outfits. In June Raelyn and musical sister Hannah Fairlight released their debut album under the moniker mmhmm, this week The Raelyn Nelson Band releases a new song and video which was co-written by Raelyn’s biological kid sister Scout.

“Mama Cry” is out now at all digital outlets and you can see the video here:

“Basically, Scout and I wrote this tune after she made our mom cry one day.  We hate seeing her cry and started singing ‘Why Why Why…does mama gotta cry cry cry?’ Since Scout recently graduated from college, the verses kind of fell into place as the song takes you through leaving childhood behind and chasing dreams.” – explained Raelyn

The band spent the first half of 2018 on the road, crisscrossing the country, staying true to themselves and playing some very diverse gigs, such as opening for legendary punk rockers the Decendents, a slot on Willie’s 4th of July Picnic Festival, and a headlining, standing room only show at LA’s famous Whisky A Go-Go.  The RNB is also putting the finishes touches on a set of new songs to be released later this year.

“We did a bunch of recording the first of the year, but our touring schedule made it a little challenging, as far as getting the stuff mixed and mastered. We still write, record, and produce everything ourselves, so it’s been a matter of just finding the time to finish it all. When you throw in the music videos we like to make for each of our songs, well…you get the picture. That been said, you can’t imagine how excited we are to have a new collection of songs finished and ready for people to hear.” – says Raelyn

Expect more tour news coming soon that includes stops at The Summer Sounds Festival in Cedarburg, WI and The Muddy Roots Festival in Cookeville, TN.
