INTERVIEW: Shekhinah

Hi Shekhinah, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi VENTS! We’ve been all good and growing on this side. It’s winter in South Africa, so we have the good music to keep our people warm!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Suited”?

Suited is the single from my debut album title Rose Gold and it speaks to the young modern lovers. The song celebrates young love as a-whole in all its forms.

At the moment, we are pushing the Remix, which features Nigerian superstar Mr Eazi.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

The song was really inspired by my own relationship and many others around me in my college environment at the time, the feeling of being so young yet so suited to ur lover.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes we have the video for the song currently out on vevo now please go and check it out! and the remix edit just eagerly awaiting to be dropped next month.

The single comes off your new album Rose Gold – what’s the story behind the title?

The title comes from the idea of seeing life through rose gold tinted shades.

The shift between high school to college and college to real life,  takes a toll on most of us , it felt as if I was stripped of my “Rosegold” world , the whole project deals with adolescent encounters in both love and life, trying to pave a way back to the Rosegold days.

How was the recording and writing process?

This was really challenging as we didn’t really know what we where doing so our methods changed frequently before we got into a rhythm that allowed us to progress , also fresh out of college and just trying to make ends meet was such a test to myself and my producer but by grace we got the job done.

What role does South Africa play in your writing?

South Africa is home and is my reality it inspires a lot of me and has so much to offer in terms of cultural diversity which helps us do the most without needing to seek inspiration to far away  from home. Just so you know, between you and I… I have UK Citizenship too.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

Yes, I find it so much easier to collaborate as you are bouncing emotion of another person you get to share a vision and have two different opinions on the same feeling in one song.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Really just everyday occurrences in my life and observing others. I’m very observant- sometimes quiet and in the corner, watch life through my rose-Gold shades. Feel me?

Any plans to hit the road?

Next year I plan on leaving home to spreed music and love to new grounds. Some plans are almost closed and finalized which I cannot share yet. I will be making a series of announcements through my social media platforms.

What else is happening next in Shekhinah’s world?

Rosegold tour is leaving South Africa to celebrate its success all over the African continent we are really looking forward to bringing the music to the people in 2018 finally. You can also expect new music inspired by Rosegold.
