INTERVIEW: Here Are The Lions

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’re great! We’re happy to be introducing Here are the lions…

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Unsatisfied”?

This first single is our battle cry: “I don’t know why I’m unsatisfied!”. This is one of the messages in the air. We were recording at Germano’s studios last January when we realized a song initially called Jekyll and Hyde could carry a more universal message: we all have a double temptation. One day we are heroes, the next night deserters. The answer is in our head: we have to choose. Life is filled by choice!

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

The lyrics are inspired by everyday life. If you watch people in the subway, on the street, at work, you can see that double possibility: the good and the bad. If you’re pessimistic, you could say the bad guys win the match, if you’re optimistic, you could celebrate the brave.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

The video was shot on July 24th. The release date is set for the middle of August. The video will tell disturbing stories of people struggling between the good and the bad option. The answer is always in each of us: maybe you only have to change your point of view. And this is it! The message could be sent to everybody!

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process is always chaotic. It starts with a beginning of a melody or a chord progression on a beat. Then a song appears with some first words, sentences, expressions like coming down on some muon. The next step is to arrange a computer demo playing most of the instruments on keyboards. Then many many rehearsals to get the right result: what’s working and what doesn’t work! Usually it’s a long process with a lot of music blood on the floor: notes, beats and hopes…

Known for playing with different genres – how do you get to balance them together?

We are living in our world today. Rap and Urban music has taken the power. Rock, pop and even the Motown and Stax sounds have to update their codes. As the world is more blended everyday, we are thinking the music for tomorrow must evolve with a new DNA: a combination of rock, pop, electronic & soul is the answer we feel more comfortable with.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

The first EP will be released late September with four songs. We produced them as four singles to show the range of HATL. We have great hopes and some expectations! Audiences will decide…

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Song Titles? Maybe I’m a freak, Love//:Hate, Leave her in heaven + Unsatisfied.

What aspect of our society will you keep exploring?

The idea of a real change like in the sixties needs to evolve. After the second World War, the idea of togetherness resounded. Now times have changed. In our self-centered age, the trigger is inside each human being. But, because life is complex, more than ever we can be manipulated even with our consent! The aspect we are exploring is the mind. Revolution has to be done in the minds of people.

Any plans to hit the road?

The first gigs will be in New York late September. Then, we’ll hit the road for the album promotion next year.

What else is happening next in Here Are The Lions’ world?

Writing and producing the album, something like 8 to 10 new songs. For the tour, we are imagining a performance all around the music:  videos, dancers, actors etc. Art is always the answer! We are all multi-potentialities! We all just need to put this information.
