Today, alternative renegades Half the Animal released their new video for their shimmery, synth-driven single “Too Late.” The video, which premiered on Substream, showcases the vulnerability in knowing when you need to stop and start over – a “what’s done is done” reflection, until you quite literally (as the music video shows), need to take that leap to move on. “There’s a piece inside of us that knows what it’s like to get knocked down, but also knows you get another chance. It’s never too late,” Chase Johnson (vocals) described when discussing the meaning behind the new single. “Even as a kid, when I had something to prove, I pushed myself to the edge. And now as an adult- I can say fuck it, throw all my shit off the ledge, and jump from great heights with my friends.”
Half the Animal began as a reunion for lifelong friends Chase Johnson and Nick Gross(drums), following a brief run in the Southern California punk scene a few years back. Joined by Dan Graham, the group immediately bared its teeth. Powered by sweeping synths, supersize hooks, wild lyrics, and a reckless spirit, the sound could be likened to a one-night stand between Coast Modern, Phantogram, and The Kooks narrated by The Wolf of Wall Street.
