Following the release of their latest superb sonic offering “Ghost,” which V Magazinehailed as a “funky groove-rock jam,” American four-piece RUSSO has released their incredible debut EP, “House With A Pool” worldwide. This electrically-charged 7-track collection includes previous smashes including the Karen O-esque debut single “Lonely,” as well as their most recent release, the guitar driven, grab-you-by-the-ear “Ghost,” which the band describes as “an emotional banger that deals with the complexities of being in a relationship with someone who has become a shell of themselves, a ghost.” Watch the Hamish Stephenson-directed video for “Ghost” HERE.
New tracks such as their latest single “Loudmouth,” which dropped today alongside an official music video directed by Toronto-based collective, Kid. Studio, is a spunky dance-floor anthem for the ages, complete with a foot-stomping bass line and infectious scream-along chorus. The video premiered viaPAPER Magazine who spoke to Cailin about the new EP and single. Read HERE.
“Bad Things,” showcases the band’s strong rock influences and penchant for 90s ska-pop, with its murky and menacing retro-rock influenced tempo. Lastly, their EP closer, “Joyride” is a sweet and soulful rock ballad that still manages to hold on to its edge and grit. Reverberating throughout the EP is a certain energy, an underlying rebelliousness that seamlessly carries from one song to the next, creating a cohesive collection of songs that will simultaneously make you rage into the night while tapping into your emotions.
RUSSO are on the fast track to becoming one of the most exciting bands to emerge in 2018. Their sound, a refreshing blend of ska-pop and rock, coupled with their sweat-infused, high-energy live performances, critics are quick to compare this California based band to the likes of No Doubt, Blondie and The Clash.
Raised in California front-woman Cailin Russo was introduced to rock at an early age by her father Scott Russo, the lead-singer of rock-band Unwritten Law. With influences ranging from The Smiths to Violet Femmes, Sublime to Bob Marley and the Gorillaz, the band, are also hugely inspired by everyone from the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nirvana, No Doubt, to The Strokes, Pink Floyd, David Byrne, Oasis and Led Zeppelin.
RUSSO’s signature sound comes thanks to the band’s diverse roster of talented music makers, all equally as experimental as Cailin who respectively offer a different piece of the act’s unique musical puzzle. Formed in Los Angeles in 2018, RUSSO consists of singer/songwriter Cailin Russo on lead vocals, Tyler McCarthy on guitar, Hayley Brownell on drums and backing vocals and Sean Ritchie on bass.
Currently in the midst of a West Coast tour, RUSSO is set to play the Constellation Room in Santa Ana (supporting Opia) tonight, followed by a hometown show in Los Angeles for KCRW’s School Night at Bardot on July 16.
