21-year-old Morell Brown drops his newest single, “Trapped,” today. The single is following his debut EP “Side Effects”.
This fun, electric track, produced by Avery Bzdyk, instrumental beat by Maxxwell Q, and written by Morell Brown, brings a new flavor to Brown’s already smooth and sultry sound and showcases his evolving sound and outlook on life. The pumped up new track combines Brown’s smooth vocals and powerful lyrics with hypnotic electronic influences. “Trapped” shows off his incredible soulful vocals AND his exquisite songwriting skills.
Trapped was written when Brown was feeling like he was stuck, doing the same things over and over, not advancing and no one understood what he felt. He says he was taking two steps forward and one step back, something most of us have experienced. Ultimately, he was trying to get over the unwanted things that were occurring in his life. The butterfly emerging from its cocoon is a symbol of freedom to Brown and expresses how he wanted to feel when he was feeling “Trapped.”
When Brown was in high school, he revealed his sexual orientation as gay, resulting in bullying which ultimately lead him to a dark place. One of his escapes was through high school musical theatre where his shows/roles include: Beauty and The Beast, Pippin, and The Music Man. Because he was bullied for being gay, he is an active LGBT advocate and believes that everyone deserves to feel safe no matter their sexual orientation. Brown’s songs are written to let everyone know that it’s normal to go through hard times and there are others out there that can relate.
