Thank you for having me! I’ve been great, working hard and excited to be talking to you.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Distress Signal”?
Distress Signal is the first song we’ve released following up our first EP “Thoughts In Your Head.” It’s a huge leap ahead in sound from the bands debut release, and we were all curious to hear people’s reactions. Now that it’s out and people are enjoying it we couldn’t be happier with the entire release.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
There isn’t a specific point in time that I could attach this to. But I feel like it’s the past few years packed into one song and that’s why it hits so close to me and I hope with others listening. It’s kind of everything in my head that I haven’t been able to say over last couple of years, all in a few minutes.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
I think the filming process is the most stressful, but fun experience for us. We’ve done all of our videos ourselves so it’s a really interesting process. When we first started as a band and didn’t have a budget for music videos, our guitar player Chris Klumpp took the initiative and rented a camera and bought some lights (we returned them after of course) just to make it work. He’s grown so much from that amount of time though so when we do videos now it’s really fun because it’s not just a guy telling us what to do. This time around we were lucky enough to have our friend Burke help us film the live shots we couldn’t do while playing. We all bounce ideas off of each other, tell each other what sucks and what doesn’t, and just have fun in the process.
How was the recording and writing process?
This was one of those songs that just flows out in one night. I do most of my writing between 12 AM – 7 AM, so it’s usually inspired by a lot of coffee, and “what if” ideas put into play. I let everything on my mind just flow into this without filtering it with a bunch metaphors or things that I didn’t think we’re completely honest. I brought it to the band after, we made some tweaks, and the recording process went great and smooth. We recorded it with our friend Chris Piquette in Providence, RI. While we were recording I couldn’t believe it was an Idle Lives song. We’re all extremely proud of how it came out.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
We’re currently recording the rest of the new EP. We have the same great feelings we had while recording Distress Signal and it’s only getting better. It’s so diverse and a huge step up from the first EP but we couldn’t be more proud.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Nothing is set in stone, but I hope this will be in the world before the end of the year!
Any plans to hit the road?
Nothing we can announce at the moment, but we will be hitting the road this year to support these new songs!
What else is happening next in Idle Lives’ world?
New music being finished, shows coming up, and enjoying every second of it! We’ll be playing this years Vans Warped Tour in Hartford, CT and getting sunburn with all of our friends and can’t wait.
