Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Baking in this heat (if you know what I mean ????????????)
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “American Dreamin’”?
American Dreamin’ is a song that Joel used to play with his band The Whig Whams. When he joined the band we decided it didn’t get the love it deserved so on our last U.S. tour we stopped off in Tucson Arizona and laid it down with our buddy Matt Rendon at Midtown Island.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Joel wrote the song when he first found out that he was getting his U.S. Visa revoked and he’d have to move back to the UK right after finishing school. The song is a bittersweet ode to being thrown out of your comfort zone.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
A live video will be out soon!
How was the recording and writing process?
We recorded it in two hours live to ADAT tape in a sweaty garage in Tuscon, Arizona. Shout out to our good friend Matt Rendon from The Resonars who cut it. Joel had an old demo of him playing it and we learnt it in the studio.
What role does the 60s/70s play in your music?
It certainly doesn’t play into it aesthetically, we’re not really one of those bands that want to dress up like Austin Powers or an extra in Almost Famous.
I don’t like to think we’re too ritualised in what we do, we’re very much a group of people in 2018 that happen to have old record collections but we try and keep an ear to the grapevine because there is a lot of cool stuff happening right now.
I guess volume and performance are what plays into it the most.
How has MC5 influenced your writing?
It makes me want to play with maximum power and effort in anything I do. Those guys start every show at 10 – and end at 10.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
The album is nearly done, there will be an EP soon too.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Stay tuned for that information.
Any plans to hit the road?
What else is happening next in Thee MVPS’s world?
We’re very excited to get a dinner table for our house so we can stopped eating all hunched over like cavemen.
Oh yea we live in a house in Leeds together now, it’s JUST LIKE the Monkees.
