Can you talk to us about your latest single “Shake It”?
That is a special one for me. It has kinda old skool electro vibes plus newskool aggressive bass sounds, and it has that “Shake It” vocal sample which I split into two parts… sounds like its more “Shake That” now 🙂
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I wanted to create something interesting to hear you know, not just a flat track but something which tells a little story in the sound section.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Could be cool idea I guess but we’ll see.
How was the recording and writing process?
You know when you got an idea – I mean a fully-formed, completed idea in your head – the rest of the track makes itself… You just need to sit in the studio and watch this process unfold. That’s how it was with this, it was a very natural process.
What role does Russia play in your music?
I was the first Russian electronic music export, kinda. There were two other electronic musicians in 2006, who had releases on foreign labels outside of Russia but without any resonance in the industry, just releases. I was the first electronic musician who had the opportunity to travel around globe as a DJ, Musician and Producer. I’ve used the Hammer And Sickle (the Soviet Union logo) in digital variant as my PROXY logo, so for the people outside of Russia, I was a kid with crazy music with a kinda Post Soviet image, which reflects my identity.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than on your own?
I always try to approach collaborations differently to when producing on my own. When collaborating, in my eyes it must be something new, something fresh to both of us and as people work differently: it’s always learning something new from the process.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?
Of course! I’ve just started! Soon you’ll get lots of fresh stuff from me!
Any plans to hit the road?
Yep, there are few gigs in Europe here and there, and an Australian tour in coming this August.
What else is happening next in PROXY’s world?
Lots of stuff and everything is centered around music 🙂
