INTERVIEW: The New Investors

Camilla Hylleberg Photography

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thanks a lot, it’s a pleasure to be here. How have we been? You mean while creating our new album? Well, it’s been a quite pleasant experience. We’ve been doing a lot of experiments both in the studio and out in the outside world in order to find the Element of Love and translate it into music. The result is called In Love With Everyone and is the title of our brand new album.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Deborah”?

The song is about loneliness, the modern kind of loneliness that many people nowadays actually chose for themselves to achieve the personal freedom they need to live the kind of lives they want. It feels nice and free but it sure comes with a price. Deborah is just a name for or a personification of that particular loneliness.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Not a particular event, no. But it’s definitely a phenomenon that we or some of us can relate to. It clearly has become a consequence of the modern lifestyle in the western societies as the French writher Michel Houellebecq has also pointed out in most of his books.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

It was a purely experimental process where neither we nor the director knew what we would end up with. We actually just started to film our Live performances of the song. The director went on stage asked the audience to contribute to the making of the video by recording the performance with their mobile phone and then send it to us. We got a lot of contributions, however, the director ended up not using them but it sort of led the way for the process. It’s similar to how the song writing process sometimes works for us.

How was the recording and writing process?

This was actually the first song we wrote for this new album. It pretty much shows our new band member Andreas’ influence on our new songs as the idea for it started out in the rehearsal room. The recording process went quite smooth. In the beginning we played in a bit slow Beach House kind of pace, but then the sound engineer was falling asleep behind the console and asked us if we could try to speed it up a bit. That worked well.

What role does Copenhagen play in your writing?

I’m not sure if it plays any role. I guess we could be writing these songs anywhere. It’s a really nice city, especially in the summer. You and your readers should definitely come and check it out.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

There’s plenty of new material on the album we just released and we will release a new single in the late summer.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The next single is called Patricia, yes, another girl’s name. There seem to be a pattern.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, we have a few summer festival gigs in Denmark in July and August and we’re planning a European tour in the fall. We just need an invitation from the UK.

What else is happening next in The New Investors’ world?

Our drummer has just become a father to a cute little boy. He’s definitely gonna be a dangerous football player like his daddy.
