Hi Ape Drums, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Can’t complain, living day by day.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Shellz”?

I made this in Germany with Frizzo, we finished it within a few hours. I just wanted to bring simple, raw, hard, trap back. Brass is always a popular sound, so I took it and tried to make it as BIG as possible.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I was inspired to make this bc trap was/is popular and as ‘Ape Drums’, I’ve never released a trap single. I kept it simple and clean, straight to the point.

How was the recording and writing process?

Like I mentioned earlier, everything was so fast and easy. Our creativity was on point and ideas were solid. We finished this song within a few hours and just kept jamming to it loud in the studio.

What made you want to go for a big brass and raw approach?

I just wanted to bring the rawness back, without all the dubstep sounds.

What was it like to work with Denzel Curry and Frizzo and how did the relationship develop?

Frizzo & I were really cool right off the back. I get along easy with people who are as nice and respectable as I feel I am. I feel like i’ve known him for years, no awkward moments. Same with Denzel, I’ve never met him, but him willing to work with us says alot, shows respect & that he was confident in what we made.

How much did they influence the song?

Frizzo was kind enough to let me use his studio in Germany, also was my 3rd ear which is VERY important & gave me amazing vibes/feedback, simply couldn’t have happened if it weren’t for him.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

It depends on what kind of song were working on and who i’m collaborating with. EDM & pop music have very different approaches. I will say that I like to keep both as simple as possible.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

100%. My goal this year is to release as much as music as possible.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

No dates yet but were trying!

Any plans to hit the road?

Always plans to hit the road, after the next few releases we are gonna try and line up a sick run.

What else is happening next in Ape Drums’ world?

I’m gonna try EVERYTHING. Production, singing, songwriting, fashion, theres no limit for me anymore.
