Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Crystallized”?
Crystallized is the first song we wrote with the full line up. It’s quite special for us since it summaries everything that Fear Me December is, we go from Alt. Rock to punk, quiet parts, heavy passages until we finish with something rather dark and epic. It’s definitely a really fun song to play as there’s always something going on.
If we have to describe every FMD sound in one song, that will be the one.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
We had a deadline and well… haha just joking.
With the first album we were in a dark spot for all the pressure that comes with moving countries and starting your life again if we can put it that way. And that’s why maybe the songs had a dark tone.
But this time it felt different, the band was finally established with permanent members, a group ready to work hard and be committed to this project, we started working with a manager and it felt that even though things are hard and some people wants to bring you down there’s still people out there who believes in you.
So this time is more about pushing forward, be positive and strong to get where we want.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes! We shot it already but we cannot reveal many details. All we can say is it looks really good, we hope you enjoy it when it comes out.
Why naming the EP after this track in particular?
As mentioned before, this track is everything we are as a band, musically speaking. It has all the elements we have in all the other songs, so it seemed fit to name this chapter like that.
How was the recording and writing process?
It was really fun! It was faster than we thought it would be, as there’s a lot of chemistry in the band, we complement each other perfectly, and you can hear that in the new songs. We all have our own point of view towards writing music but it’s always thinking of the song and not the individuality.
We have two different writing process, and depending which one we are following we can see clearly how the song is gonna be. On one hand Stu and Val they write the music first and Vic will fit the vocals to finish the song. But sometimes Vic will come out with a melody and the guys will work around that.
It sounds kind like the same process, but the outcome is completely different one from the other.
The recording was great, we went to Axis Studio again so the atmosphere was really good, really relaxed.
How Alter Bridge and Tonight Alive has influence your writing?
We take the heaviness of Alter Bridge and mix it with Tonight Alive’s punk and we have Fear Me December. Both bands are really melodic when it comes to vocals and that’s the ultimate goal for us. It’s the perfect mix. Heavy riffs with pop punk vocals, can’t get any better.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
We always write from experience, always about things that happened to us. Music is our best catalyst so each song is a little journey into our minds.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes! We have a nice tour coming but cannot share details yet. Stay tuned cause it will be amazing and we can’t wait.
Oh but we can start warming up with our next gigs:
22/7 – RS bar, Sheffield (tramlines)
25/8 – Sanctuary, Burnley
17/8 – Cotswold inn, Cheltenham
What else is happening next in Fear Me December’s world?
At the moment working really hard for the EP release, that’s taking most of our time but we really enjoy it. We are also working on new videos, so yeah more EP work to keep us busy.
So expect to see a lot of us until the end of the year, lots of amazing things coming!
And we want to thank you guys for this opportunity and the space to be here, is amazing and we enjoined this lots.
