INTERVIEW: Scottish band The Nickajack Men

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Sup we’ve been all good, thanks for having a chat with us!!

Can you talk to us more about your latest singles “Changed Ways” and “Different Languages”?

Ya we just released two singles “Changed Ways’ & “Different Languages” via Glasgow Label Electric Honey so were real happy about that. Theres going to be a limited run of 7″ vinyl available real soon. We were lucky enough to go over to Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin to record “Changed Ways” it was a great experience for us working with Larry Hogan and Niall McGonigle over there.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this songs?

I suppose theres no real event individually inspired the songs but an accumulation of events. Mostly our depressing stuff haha.

Any plans to release a video for any of the tracks?

Theres gonna be a video for “Changed Ways” out pretty soon !!

How was the recording and writing process?

It went pretty smoothly thankfully haha. Sometimes its hard to get the song exactly where you want it on record in comparison to playing it live. Its hard to get our live show on record but i think these two songs represent our live show more than anything we’ve released before.

Are both tracks connected by the same themes or are they standalone songs?

They are more stand alone songs. We just wanted to put out more than just 1 song to be honest and had the chance to go over to Windmill Studios to record one song. We recorded “Changed Ways” over there and recorded “Different Languages” in our practice room with our good friend Iain King.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

It was good working with other people on “Changed Ways”. We had it how we wanted it pretty much. It was great working with the gents at Windmill Studios and seeing their different recording techniques and tricks. It was different from how we had worked before.

Will this serve as a sneak peek into a bigger album? How’s that coming along?

Hopefully we can get an album out at some point next year. We have a bunch of songs unrecorded so hopefully we can get some of them down in the next year or so!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Unfortunately not haha. We will let ya know whenever we do though!!

Any plans to hit the road?

We’re playing loads of dates over the summer and we got a headline UK tour in September so people reading this should come to that haha! You can get all the details and ticket info on our Facebook or any social media.

What else is happening next in The Nickjack Men’s world?

We’re just relaxing enjoying playing loads of shows just now. We’re excited to be supporting one of our favourite Scottish bands Neon Waltz in Dunfermline 20th July, everyone should come enjoy some rock n roll.
