Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Great, and busy! Thanks for asking!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Other Drugs”?

We started writing a lot even while we were in the studio recording Eulogy and one of the tracks that stood out was Other Drugs. It was originally a lot different, with a more upbeat pop vibe. Slowly it morphed into the darker, synthier track we released.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Nothing in particular, Leith just had this chorus in mind that all the lyrics seemed to revolve around by the end of it.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

Exhausting but great. We managed to get everything shot over 12 hours (6pm-6am) and that was a long day but we’re really happy with how it turned out. Researching all the makeup and materials that glow under blacklight was really interesting.

How was the recording and writing process?

Recording was awesome. We worked with Ben Erikson and Adam Sutherland who recorded Eulogy with us. They always help us put out a killer product. Writing is always a little more hit and miss, somedays you get great ideas, other days you only get a 4-bar loop. You just have to keep working at it.

What role does Canada play in your writing?

Just like any other country, Canada has it’s own unique flavour and artists that you sort of absorb through osmosis. We live in a place that’s such a melting pot of different cultures, that you’re bound to get lots of influences coming at you from all directions.

How does your old material differ from the new subject matter you plan on leaning toward?

We’ve gone through a radical progression over the 4 years we’ve been a band. Our first EP to now you could barely tell we’re the same band. Our last LP was written about our guitarist Chasen Fraser who passed away, so we’ve definitely steered from writing so heavily on personal experience. We’re trying to tell different stories I suppose.

Any plans to hit the road?

We’re working on a few out of town shows. We’ll have some tours happening next year we hope. 2017-18 was a wild ride with our lineup change and brief hiatus so we’re still working on it!

What else is happening next in VAULTRY’s world?

We’re working on plenty of new music we’re planning to release over the next few months. We’re also going to be working on getting into the states and plenty of other projects.
