Hi LaToya, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Heyyyy! I’m feeling extra nice, life is great.
Can you talk to us more about your single “Everything”?
EVERYTHING is about not giving up, trusting yourself to let out your real inner talents to express yourself, it’s about killing people with your success.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
You know what… my producers and I came up with the theme of the song when I broke down to them about wanting to let the world hear my singing voice.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
The video shoot was dope! @88everything definitely captured my vision of now feeling free to motivate thru my singing, the scene with the children was a lot of fun as well.
The single comes off your new album Grown – what’s the story behind the title?
I used to say that I changed my life, but something was missing, I was still associating myself to certain things, and people. Being able to disconnect yourself from the negative and still continue to focus which is what I’ve done is called being GROWN. I’ve GROWN.
How was the recording and writing process?
This song was very emotional to write along with Dwayne “Koolaid” Morgan who is also one of my producers from Soundsmith Music Group. We recorded the song at 4;30am, I was close to tears and drained because I still had to go to work for 9am, but overall due to the theme of the song..I guess I had to take a real beaten to come out with this beautiful finished product.
It helped enhanced my stage performances because the audience never lets me leave without performing one of my songs! I would also like to s/O Sunny Diamond who mastered the songs on my EP Album!!
What was it like to work with Sound Smith Productions and how did that relationship develop?
SoundsmithMusicgroup ahhhh mannn all I gotta say is they are very tough on me and I love it, “Koolaid” never allows me to doubt, or refrain myself from trying something new, “Ynot” is like my undercover vocal coach.
Nobody has seen the emotions behind the scenes of this EP album, and I dont think anybody will ever get that opportunity to. I just want to shout them out for their loyalty.
Has your film-making influence your music and vice versa?
My visuals are going to be out of this world because I also went to Film school. My Film making experience is great! My last film Creature was a success. I won Best Directed Film at COMMFEST Film Festival, and I just came back from screening Creature at a COMMFEST Film Festival which was a very good experience.
How does this album showcase a more mature side of you as an artist?
Oh I’m mature now trust me lol you can see it, and hear it.
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
I went through a lot and finally decided to let it out my pain thru my lyrics, I learnt how to trust and have faith through this EP. My other inspiration is God, and my family… they back me a lot, I’m blessed.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes I am opening up for GZA from Wu-Tang Clan July 7th in Miami, and Ganja Fest July 28 in Toronto.
What else is happening next in LaToya Jane’s world?
I have a slogan #WatchMeGrow… you’ll see.
