INTERVIEW: Kevin Pearce

Hi Kevin, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello! Pretty good thanks. Well apart from having an untimely  Heart Attack in April….as one does at a reasonably young age… but on the mend now and growing in strength. Life goes on.Thankfully. x

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Plastic Man”?

‘Plastic Man’ is a song about the overuse of Plastic and its impact on our environment.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I was in London and saw a businessman throw a packaged sandwich on the floor, and oddly i had just been reading an article that morning about the amount of plastic in our oceans. it all spiralled from there.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Indeed. A video is right ready to go, just waiting for the right time to release it..

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing and recording were done fairly simultaneously. i seem to do that more so these days once i have the frame of the song sketched out and the lyrics, i like to play with the songs form and add/subtract parts as i go along. i find recording as i go helps me see the colours so to speak.

What role does Essex play in your music?

Its a strange place Essex. Very varied depending which end you go. The coastal and rural areas are beautiful. I don’t overly feel part of the larger towns, although they are good for watching a snapshot of society.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

Yes. With collaboration comes a certain amount of understanding how someone else works, and realising it is not about any one mind but the fusion of tow or more. to get that to work you have to remember to leave ones ego at the door…and hoping the others you work with are able to do the same 😉

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yea..i am working on 12 new tracks as we speak. Just formulating their direction and vibe at the moment in terms of recording technique and approach. i think a few of them are the best things i have done.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

No dates as of yet but a couple of titles knocking around – ‘Smile Again’ and ‘The Beast’ are two of them – possibly showing my polarity there !

Any plans to hit the road?

Im playing a few select shows this year and i am also involved in a Science Project at Sheffield University so that keeps me on the move a fair bit. Just doing what my health allows at current, but hoping to do a bunch of shows around October/November time.

What else is happening next in Kevin Pearce’s world?

Trying not to die and looking after my heart best i can after recent events. And as much laughter as i can muster. x
