LA FORCE – Ariel Engle of Broken Social Scene – Shares Music Video for “Lucky One”

La Force, the breakout solo project of Broken Social Scene vocalist Ariel Engle, shared the music video for the song “Lucky One” today via Culture Collide HERE.

Engle says, “The video for ‘Lucky One’ is striking in its restraint. There’s a purposeful lack of both narrative and fast cuts. It features instead Charles-André Coderre’s manipulated film over images of myself. It’s meditative in its simplicity. An emotional mirror of the song.”

Charles adds, “We preferred to leave room for the viewer’s imagination rather than impose a way of interpreting the song. I did a special colour chemical treatment on 16mm film to create the foregrounded image. Ariel appears as a spectre, kind of a distant reminiscence under layers of film.”

The song transcends in an R&B haze, oscillating between mysticism and melody in equal, effortless pacts. Performed with Warren Spicer (Plants & Animals), Liam O’Neill (SUUNS), Mishka Stein (Patrick Watson), and David French (BSS), “Lucky One” reflects the reverential tone of Engle’s vision, of a music universally informed and locally charged: astral and collaborative in nature.

Engle has emerged to the forefront of Broken Social Scene via the band’s acclaimed 2017 albumHug Of Thunder, with her undeniable vocals commanding the oblique anthem “Stay Happy” and the soaring “Gonna Get Better.” Stepping up to the role first helmed by the immeasurable talents Leslie Feist, Emily Haines (Metric), and Amy Millan (Stars), Engle brings La Force’s singularity to the familial power of Broken Social Scene.

Borrowing her identity from the tarot card representing Strength – depicting a woman with gentle dominance over a lion – ‘La Force’ captures the tender / powerful essence of the music.

“Lucky One” is available to stream and buy now. La Force recently released the song “You Amaze Me” and will be releasing more music throughout 2018 via Arts & Crafts; stay tuned…

La Force also announces headline dates in North America this fall, on the heels of captivating spring performances opening for Feist at Santa Teresa Festival, and Patrick Watson at Massey Hall. The live four-piece will play Canada in September and New York, Washington, Philadelphia in October. Tickets go on sale Friday. Visit: www.laforceband.com
