INTERVIEW: Kristine Elezaj

Hi Kristine, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi everyone! I’ve been great. Thanks for asking!

1. Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Over & Over”?

I’ve always been a hopeless romantic. I’m in love with love and it’s different forms, so it’s one of my favorite subjects to explore deeper when I’m writing. This song just started off as a conversation between my executive producer and co writer in the studio one day. It’s about a love where you are constantly discovering each other, life through each other, and the things your experience together. That’s not just during the highs, but the lows as well.

2. Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

This song was inspired just from being inspired from what the feeling of love can be at it’s purest form.

3. How was the filming process and experience behind the whole video?

This was the third collaboration with my dear friend and director Jose Omar Hernandez. I love working with him because we feed off of each other effortless. From even the start of conception of the concept, we are sending visuals and ideas back and forth at all hours. I love this process because after living in the studio with it for so long, you finally get to bring the feeling of the song to life in another way and it makes it brand new for me all over again. Everyone I worked with on set has been with me throughout my career for a while now, so it’s a seamless process and everyone loves what they do, so it doesn’t even feel like work. It’s just becomes a bunch of friends making art. Shooting videos and performing really brings me back to that feeling I had when I was little girl and wanting to be in this business. I’m so happy with the way this one turned out and how I’m evolving as an artist in my music videos.

4. How was the recording and writing process?

It’ always a safe place of exploration. Sometimes, I have a concept I’ve been working on at home that I’ll come in with and sometimes it’s just about playing around with sounds and where that inspires to take my team and myself when we’re writing. This song was a conversation. The studio is always great because there is no judgment there. Sometimes I don’t even realize how long we’ve been locked in. At the end of this session we really felt like we had something special. I was making music for myself and what I thought felt good for my soul. I feel like when you hear this song you can tell that energy is there & I think that’s what makes the process so great.

5. What role does NYC play in your writing?

I don’t think it’s just my writing it’s my whole personality. I’m a New Yorker, so at the end of the day in everything that I do I’m just being real and myself. My writing is me to it’s purest. You get the same Kristine in a song now as you do when you have a conversation with me and same goes for how I dress and carry myself. NYC is interesting because to me it’s a strong city, but when you’re from there you understand there is lot’s to discover that’s also mysterious as well. It’s core and essence is the same but it’s constantly evolving. Same goes for me.

6. Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than on your own?

Being in the studio is interesting because it really reflects life on a bigger level is you look at it closely within the collaborating side. I actually always collab because I know I never know everything 100% and I like learning from my peers in the studio as well. It’s all about being open to how we interpret each other.

7. Does the new single mean we can expect new material – How’s the coming along?

Always! This is just the beginning. I’m back in the studio right now with Blair Taylor who I worked with on “Over & Over” and all the last singles as well. I love the work we do together and I’m excited to see how we’ve even evolved with this last batch of material.

8. Any tentative release date or title in mind?

There are some favorites but nothing is totally finished yet for me to make a solid decision right now. But it won’t be long I’m sure.

9. Any plans to hit the road?

Since the promo for “Over & Over” has started, I’m sure there will be talks about hitting the road soon. Actually, getting to perform these song babies live is one of the best feelings in the world when you get to physically see how people react to it. I also have the best band behind me.

10. What else is happening in Kristine’s world?

Just enjoying the ride! I’m excited for this next chapter of music and life. I’m so inspired by everything that’s going on professionally and personally around me. More importantly just thankful for being able to do it my way and grow my music, brand, and company. It’s been a long time coming.
