Norwegian songstress/producer Emma Jensen returns with her new single, “Rush,” to kick off the summer of 2018. The track, revealed on PAPER Magazine just yesterday, is a follow up to her 2017 breakout debut and tells the tale of a lackluster love. “Rush” was produced by Jensen and fellow Norwegian Henrik the Artist (signed to Diplo’s Mad Decent). Already dubbed “Norway’s latest gem” with only two singles released to date and drawing comparisons to Ellie Goulding and Zara Larrson, Jensen has made waves with “Closer” which she produced, wrote, and sang. Delivering an all too relatable, infectious chorus alongside her sultry yet vulnerable vocals, “Rush” is set to follow suit and have listeners hooked.

In addition, she will be performing at H&M Loves Music in Oslo on Saturday, June 2nd. The festival is free to the public, with two stages, one outside and one inside, and is a full day of strictly Norwegian artists. After the success of “Closer,” Jensen played the festival on an early slot last year. One year later, she is headlining on the main stage where she will perform “Rush” for the first time live.
When asked about the story behind “Rush,” Jensen said: “I’ve been obsessed with 80’s pop lately. Peter Cetera has been playing on repeat for months now. I remember air drumming on the train jamming to ‘Restless Heart’ on max volume in my headphones. That was the first time in like 4 months that I was getting really excited listening to music. When we did the production on ‘Rush,’ I made sure to include those big 80’s drums. There’s also three different BPMs in the song – you can barely hear it but it’s supposed to give you the feeling that you’re kinda being dragged into the chorus. I love how the production in the verses are kinda quirky and fun and then there’s this big chorus.”
She added: “‘Rush’ is definitely different from my previous singles. It’s still very me, but more pop maybe? I think it’s just new inspiration from both listening to a variety of music and working with a lot of talented, cool people. I’ve for sure stepped out of my comfort zone and found confidence in the last year or two. I don’t think too much about what kind of music I’m making when I’m in the studio. It could be a really cool synth, big 80’s drums, a nice melody or just a weird sound. I just wanna do what feels good.”
Growing up right outside of Oslo, Norway, Emma Jensen was listening to everything from Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris and Leonard Cohan to John Mayer and Katie Melua. At the same time she was playing the violin and singing. When she was 14 she started writing songs and some years later she started producing, learning everything from YouTube.
Fast forward to 2017, Jensen wrote and produced the low-key, mesmerizing, electronic debut “Closer” herself with plans to continue releasing single after single throughout 2018. The 22 year old was nominated for the unsigned talent award Urørt of the Year by NRK P3; Norway’s biggest music station, and went on to sign withKobalt Music/AWAL in the UK.
