Hi Nick, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Great. Moving forward. Staying healthy.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single Dark Days?

Dark Days is a chill vibe banger. Kinda talking about seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but still being very much in the tunnel. It’s sort of a mellow dramatic song, kinda like a lot of my stuff. Positive overtures while still being a realist and understanding there’s still going to be some rain clouds.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Most of my songs are just lifestyle inspired. Dark Days is no different. No singular event in particular, but more a consistent happening of events.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We made some super cool art for the song, but won’t be doing an official video for it. We did drop a moving art track with the audio, and we also have a few other videos done for some new songs coming soon.

How was the recording and writing process?

Recording and writing process was pretty typical of most of my stuff. Heard the beat, came up with a melody for the hook. Then paced around in and out the crib until it was all written. I usually go to the studio first thing in the morning, so I got up, headed to my dude Sparemonkey studio’s spot and we knocked it out.

After the success from your previous single – were you any nervous while working on this new material?

In the back of my head, I’m always conscience of hoping the new track will be able to stand up with the previous successful ones. But, I try to forget about whats already done and concentrate on doing something fresh. Can’t get stuck in the past but I am aware of what made the previous joints successful.

What role does Boston play in your writing?

Boston is my home. I have my own little place carved out. Its where I eat, hang out, hustle. I’ve learned a lot spending time in Boston. I wouldn’t say my music is centralized around the city but inspirations and things that happened to me here definitely play a role in the music.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yeah, a bunch of new stuff. I stayed quiet for a year just stacking new tracks and leveling stuff up. Excited for everyone to see and hear what I’ve been working.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I never like to announce anything before its all done and scheduled. But, sooner than later.

Any plans to hit the road?

Can’t speak on any details right now, but yes. Excited to announce those shows when I can.

What else is happening next in Nick Gray’s world?

Who knows? Hopefully more good things than bad. I take it a day at a time, and just try to enjoy every little thing.
