Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Hey Mama”?
Hey Mama is the first step in my new musical direction, it’s a new tempo, a new sound and obviously a new label. It’s about that amazing feeling you get when you’ve finally found someone you care about, and who cares about you. And wanting to tell everyone in the entire world about it. The lyrics remind me of old school Motown, and I’m such a huge fan of that era so that’s one of my favorite parts about the song.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Well I actually didn’t write the lyrics, those were written by the songwriter I worked on this song with, Mike Kintish. But I can definitely relate to the lyrics, since I’ve been with my girlfriend for 5 and a half years!
Any plans to release a video for the single?
There is two videos out already actually, one on YouTube and one on Facebook!
How was the recording and writing process?
Well I made the drop melody for this song almost two years ago, but never found the right vocal for the track. When I got sent the vocal by Mike, I paired the two and it became awesome!
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than on your own?
Yea kind of, I’m not the greatest collaborator when it comes to working with other producers, since I’m such a control freak that I wanna do everything myself, haha.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes! I got so many songs ready I wanna release. The next single is coming this summer with a really prominent vocalist, and I will also release a few remixes this summer!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Yes! But nothing I can reveal yet!
Any plans to hit the road?
Absolutely, I love to perform so the sooner the better, but I do want to be patient so that there actually will be a few people who show up when I go on tour!
What else is happening next in Hellberg’s world?
About to go film the music video for the second single, really excited about that! As well as play a bit of video games every now and then, haha.
