Coachella may feel like a distant memory, but at least one part of the festival is sticking around: the looks. This year’s event kicked off with a huge party hosted by Dior at Pioneertown Motel, as the iconic designer launched his Dior Sauvage eau de perfume (FYI, Johnny Depp was the front man for that particular party). That seemed to have set the tone for the rest of the festival, as 2018 saw some crazy fashion ensembles that have stuck around…at least as of the writing of this article.
Curious about the trends set at Coachella and how you can duplicate the iconic music festival look? There are still plenty of festivals throughout this summer for you to look your best, according to Superdry’s festival guide.
Glitter and Shimmer. Lots of it.
Don’t rush for the makeup wipes just yet. Apparently your overdone eye makeup is totally cool for the remainder of the summer.
At Coachella, attendees set this trend and really ran with it. Some of them looked like the art inspiration ideas on the back of a Crayola box, but hey, we’ll reserve judgement. And not to worry, there are plenty of options behind your local makeup counter and online if you want to duplicate the look. Snag a sparkly shadow or gloss use a product with a wet finish, like Glosser’s Lidstar or CoverFX’s Glitter Drops. And glitter if you…feel you need more glitter. Ugh. Allure has the hookup for inspiration (but we’re guessing you’re pretty inspired because, you know, glitter).
Pearls. So Many Pearls.
Your mother’s favorite piece of jewelry is now very much back in style. Allure even believes we are in the midst of a pearl renaissance. Regardless of your beliefs, there’s no denying the gemstone is here to stay, and it was very popular at this year’s festival. But not in the way you’d probably think.
No, we’re not talking about necklaces or earrings. Instead, we saw pearls in hair, headbands, decorating and accenting facial features, and more. Mix pearls with denim and you can’t go wrong.
Prices are going up, but you can still find some quality stuff online if you’re looking to duplicate the look. Rings continue to be a hot commodity, and thankfully their one of the cheaper options if you have to have the real thing.
Underwear. Preferably Branded.
Break out those tighty whities. Even better if they have a huge Calvin Klein logo on them. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Christian Dior boy shorts and bralettes have been spotted on Sierra Miller, Bella Hadid and Charlize Theron. They are still available at the Beverly Hills boutique. But be prepared to shell out some cold hard cash: They are selling for $1700 bucks!
The 90s Look
This one is probably not much of a shocker. Even a few years ago, 80s was the way to go at Coachella. Well, a new generation is upon us, and 90s is the name of the game. So bust your vintage band tees and multi-colored shades, because you’d be in good company if you did so. Local Authority even launched a Coachella clothing line of Hawaiian shirts. We’re guessing their plan is to have this stick around for a while.
Whatever your music and corresponding fashion preferences, this year’s Coachella set the tone for the remainder of the summer. So remember, when in doubt, default to your festival days for some inspiration. We’re sure it’ll do the trick.
