Ian: Um, I don’t know actually. Let me consult my lawyer.
Can you talk to us more about your upcoming single “What I’m All About”?
Ian: I guess the song is about being bored. If you’ve ever endured long bouts of boredom then I’m sure you’ve felt similar. I mean, when I’m bored I get suicidal. Or high.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Ian: The years between 2009 and 2013.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Ian: Not that I know of. But if anyone who listens to us wants a video, and tells us, then we could be swayed.
How was the recording and writing process?
Ian: Luckily I was writing a lot in college so I documented a lot of said boredom. But truthfully, my friend Chis McLaughlin and I wrote it together in Greenpoint at this bad ass studio. He’s the man, you should check him out.
What role does Brooklyn play in your music?
Ian: I don’t think there’s much of a music scene in New York anymore. If there is, then it’s out in Brooklyn. I’ve recently found a really cool jazz scene out here thanks to our bassist Steve and our drummer Chris. There’s also a kind of “throwback” sound that’s out here if you want to categorize it. But, there’s a sound in this one that was inspired by Brooklyn. I guess.
How [do] the 90s and Nina Simone [sic] influence your writing?
Ian: I’ve became a Nina Simone fan when I was a writer at a newspaper. I was in charge of writing about classical, jazz, literature, opera, ballet and the arts. One of my frequent topics was Nina and after I really immersed myself in her I fell in love. The 90s has great music in it, so why not take it as an influence?
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material? How’s that coming along?
Ian: Oh absolutely. We’ve so much material that’s recorded right now. I want to put it out in installations but maybe it would be cool to just throw it all out there at once.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Ian: Not at the moment, no.
Any plans to hit the road?
Ian: Dude, absolutely. There’s nothing in the books but we’re probably going to hitch a ride with some of our friends’ bands soon. Would love to keep it in the family. (Unless, like, Iceage or alt-J want to take us out. HIT US UP!)
What else is happening next in The Worst Humans’ world?
Ian: Just doing the damn thing, you know? What about you? Wyd?
