INTERVIEW: AMERY

Hi Amery, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi thank you, everything is going great. My fourth single California Love just came out. I’m very happy right now!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “California Love”?

Yes, California Love is a song that takes you to this special place, that brings back some of your best moments in life. I created it having in mind this idea of making you live those moments all over again while listening to the song.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Not really. I remember when James Lowland (my producer) played the chords on the piano, I instantly had this image in my mind of me in California having the best time of my life with a special someone. The track has been created quite organically; I guess we can say it really came straight from the heart, without too much overthinking. I wanted it to be fun!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

People have been asking for visuals for my previous work but I was waiting for the perfect song to do a music video for. I think California Love might be the perfect choice… Stay tuned!

How was the recording and writing process?

California Love is definitely my favorite song I’ve worked on so far. I had so much fun recording and writing it. I felt freer working on this track than on the previous ones: I tried to just let the ideas, vocals and lyrics flow naturally and to fully enjoy the process!

After the success of your previous singles – does that put any pressure on your shoulder or rather the opposite?

Yes, definitely! I think when I saw how positively people reacted to my previous singles, it automatically put a lot pressure on me to keep making songs that keep them interested. But at the same time, I don’t like to think like that when I’m working. I want to express myself as an artist and create great things that get me excited. When you put everything you got in your work, it’s always rewarding in the end.

What aspect of California did you get to explore on this record?

When I was recording this song, I was envisioning myself driving through Malibu, walking on the beach, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I wanted to transcribe that dreamy feeling, something nostalgic but also very summery.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, I’ve been working on this project with my producer James Lowland and my record label Weird !s Good for 2 years now but there’s more coming this year…

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not yet: my team and I are currently putting everything together, recording songs, starting the track list and working on a specific vibe! But I’ll make sure to keep you updated about the process on my Instagram @officialamery!

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, after the release of my project I would love to hit the road and perform for different crowds. We will kick things off with Belgium but hopefully, my music will travel to other countries as well and maybe Dominican Republic too, who knows? I’m really looking forward to that.

What else is happening next in AMERY’s world?

Right now, I’m preparing a little surprise for my fans and I’m working on my debut album, which should be released later this year. I will also perform with my band in various festivals in Belgium throughout the summer, which is very exciting ‘cause there’s nothing I love more than being on stage! We’re currently finalizing the visuals and trust me, it’s gonna look amazing!
