INTERVIEW: Emilie Brandt

Hi Emilie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been super productive with writing and working on collaborations which I’m extremely excited about.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “To Love = To Suffer”?

To Love=To Suffer is a very personal experience for me revolving around a relationship that was both inspiring and disastrous. I learnt a lot through the hardships of this particular love because it showed me that love takes a lot of work and sometimes no matter how much you put in, you have to know when to walk away.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It was this relationship that ended which inspired me to write about it. I don’t consider it a failed relationship but more of a lesson that taught me the true nature of love and how true love doesn’t come easy.

You worked with Diskover on another recent single ‘Found The Feeling’, what was it like to work with Diskover and what did he bring to the table?

Diskover is such an amazing producer. He brought the thunder with the beat for Found the Feeling. After the first listen to the instrumental he created I knew we were already on the same wavelength.

Both singles comes off your new album Freeform – what’s the story behind the title?

The story behind the title Freeform is an open interpretation of the POP genre which I’ve evolved into. It shows a tasteful blend of all my different influences and proves that there are many layers to my writing process that sometimes cross into other genres confidently.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing and recording process was a blast. Both writing and recording is my favorite part of the process because it allows me to show my fans an inside look into the brightest and darkest parts of my life. It’s when I can be the most honest with myself and my audience.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than on your own?

For the most part I take the same approach when it comes to writing for myself or collaborating with another artist. I dig deep and write from the heart. I keep it real every step of the way.

Have you got any plans to hit the road and go on tour?

Stay Tuned 🙂

What’s happening next in Emilie Brandt’s world?

I’m working on some new music videos to coincide with the album and continuously working on new material for future releases.
