Can you talk to us more about your latest EP “Extra Regular”?
Extra Regular is basically the result of countless hours in the studio, mixing styles and doing unexpected collaborations!
Did any event in particular inspired you to put the EP together?
It all started with us having too much unreleased tracks lying around and not knowing what to do with them, our manager came up with the idea of doing an EP and the idea was born! We carefully selected the songs we wanted to be featured and we’re super happy with the result!
Any plans to release a video for any of the tracks?
We have discussed it absolutely, but i think we feel like if we do a video for one of the songs we would want the feature artist to be in the video as well, and since all 3 guys are spread out all over the globe, from London, to Jamaica it would be hard, but yes we have definatly discussed it and if we get the chance to do it, why not!
Why naming the album after this track in particular?
I think it’s because it’s the track that took the longest to finish, and we have a special relationship with the track itself, after such a long time working on it, it deserves to be the title of the EP.
How was the recording and writing process?
Recording actually went very smooth for all of the tracks, Lazee was the only one we worked with directly in the studio since he lives closest to Sweden and since he’s here from time to time working on various stuff, Kerwin and Richie recorded their stuff from their own studios and since they’re super professional everything was basically ready to go after the first draft.
Like we said before, Extra Regular definatly took the longest to finish, we must’ve made 100 versions! When you make music and you work too long on a track you get to a stage where you start to doubt the song you’re working on, not knowing at the moment why, but in retrospect knowing that it’s because you’ve heard the song too much. So we gave it a rest for a month or two, came back to the versions and immediatly decided to go for the first version haha.
For Get Dirty and ’King Kong’ , it took alot less time production wise and we had alot of fun making them, i think the production of ’Get Dirty’ took like 6 hours, but mixing is a whole other story haha!
Having found success in the past – as you were working on this new EP did that put any pressure on you or rather the opposite?
Of course! After every song we release that finds success it’s always a huge pressure on releasing the next bomb, but i think you have to put those thoughts aside and just have fun in the studio, doing what you love, that’s when the best ideas take form. And this EP was no exception, especially since it was like a year ago we released any original material. It’s almost like the longer the time between releases, the pressure builds even more, but yeah, as long as we love the tracks we’re releasing, we’re never worried.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than on your own?
Absolutley, working with other people is always alot of fun bwcause you never know where you’re gonna end up, we might think we have a clue how the collaboration is gonna be and the ones we collaborate with might have a whole other way they think we’re gonna go, and that’s what makes it cool, mixing the two expectations of what the track is gonna be like.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
We didn’t actually write any of the lyrics on the songs for this EP, but we knew we wanted it to be an EP with club bangers so i think we influenced the guys in their writing when we discussed how we wanted the vocals to sound, and it turned out great!
Any plans to hit the road?
Absolutely! we’re currently planning late Summer and Autumn shows, we’ll probably go see some friends around the world as well to work on music. We love going away to work on music, it’s always a big inspiration. About a month ago we went to Ibiza to work with our friend Years for a week, and we made loads of bangers. We even actually rented a generator and drove to the most northern point of ibiza and set up our computers and monitors at an abandoned hotel with the most amazing view, (you can see some pics from it on our instagram) we made an amazing song together that day, and even though, if that song never gets released, it will always remind us of that day, and it was an inspiration boost for a long cold winter ahead. So yeah we definetly recommend going away for making music!
What else is happening next in Rob & Jack’s world?
We actually just released a new single together with dutch superstar Dannic, called ’Bring Di Fire’, it’s one of our all time favorites and you should def go check it out! Other than that we will be travelling and we have some more music coming out before the end of the Summer!
