INTERVIEW: Libby Whitehouse

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Cut It Off”?

Cut it off is my 4th single and definitely my favourite! It’s a sassy song with a strong meaning behind it and definitely supports girl power. I’m such a big critic when it comes to making music but the vibe of this one is definitely one I loved writing and very proud of! I’m so glad everyone is enjoying it too!

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I’ve had experiences of not being treated nicely but as I’m in a happy relationship now I know that those situations are so easy to get out of/over if you have self-confidence and know your worth! I’ve also seen my friends upset about boys who they’re too good for and it angers me so I thought I’d try and write the lyrics to inspire girls and to start knowing their worth!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I’ve released a small visual which is up on my instagram. There may be a video in the near future for the next single…. stay tuned to my socials for more new on that 😉

How was the recording and writing process?

I always enjoy writing and recording as new ideas spring to mind like harmonies etc so it allows me to get creative, and finishing the record and getting the small details finalized is exhausting at times but it’s the best feeling once you’ve finished a tune!

What role does Brighton play in your music?

The style of music I am making is very popular in Brighton at the moment and as my friends and I (who are from Brighton) listen to that type of music it obviously influenced cut it off a lot. Also like most clubs play RNB and pop not just in Brighton but pretty much everywhere, so that also influenced the record as I want to make music that people can dance/feel good too.

After the success of your previous work – were you any nervous while working on this new material?

Yes and no, I was excited more than anything! Knowing that everyone was really supportive of my previous singles I was confident (because I love cut it off) they would like it too.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Definitely! It’s inspired me even more and given me a clear idea and balance of what I love to write and sing and what those who support my music want to hear, I have a few ideas lined up but I can’t say anything just yet…

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I’ve actually been working on this next release for a little while now, it’s one of the first songs I ever wrote with my producer Chris, I’m just excited it get it out there. Let’s just say it’s definitely something different to the other releases and very NEW!

Any plans to hit the road?

That is a dream of mine but for now I’m looking to release/write new music and to continue to build even more of a following before that’s in the diary. A headline show for my hometown would be a cool and something I’d love to do soon…..

What else is happening next in Libby Whitehouse’s world?

I’ve been keeping busy with lots of brainstorms, dance rehearsals, writing sessions and photo shoots. Not to forget new music on the way, so things are looking exciting.  I always share what I’m up to on my social media which is @libbywhitehouse on instagram and twitter, so everyone can follow me there ????
