Inspired and grateful to be making and sharing music every day.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Not Ready For Summer”?
For sure. It’s a unique twist on the summer jam. It’s bittersweet electro-pop anthem that is super current but with retro undertones. It’s influenced by everyone from Michael Jackson to Daft Punk to Years & Years.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
I was supporting a good friend through the turbulence of a relationship. But she ended up breaking up with her boyfriend right before summer was starting. All her friends wanted to go do and plan fun summer stuff like going to the beach, going on road-trips, hanging out in New York, partying but she was not interested cause she was processing this major breakup. I thought it would be something people could relate to–a reminder that the fun stuff is only fun when it’s with the people who you love.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
It was super fun and crazy. it started with brainstorming and finalizing the concept together. I felt like we shot for 3 days straight, barely sleeping. A ton of it was shot in the middle of the night in Orange County, California. I worked with an incredible team of super professional and talented young filmmakers who were a couple years out of the Chapman University film school. They were perfectionists and pulled out all the stops. My co-star Audrey Neal was awesome to work with. We had great on-camera chemistry and really captured the feeling of students falling in love and being tragically separated by SPACE.
How was the recording and writing process?
My writing and recording process started over 2 years ago when I decided I wanted to launch an electro-pop project that would connect with millions around the world. I was mentored by a wise manager friend who advised me to first thoroughly master hit songs spanning all genres and eras…and then write a TON of songs. I cut off the rest of the world, went into a creative cocoon in Venice, CA and focused on mastering voice and songwriting. I wrote over 100 songs and also started collaborating with young, upcoming hit producers and songwriters like Charlie Snyder (X-Ambassadors, Machine Gun Kelly, Bebe Rexha, Max Schneider). Most of my creative partners live in a house in Burbank where we do all the writing and recording. It’s like a creative commune and there’s an electricity that happens when we get together.
What role does Venice Beach play in your music?
The rich musical history, ocean, boardwalk, street art, diversity of people all inspire the Cozmic sound. It’s a hot mess of natural beauty, art, culture and crazy—and I f’ing LOVE it.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Absolutely. We have already recorded lots more but are waiting for the right time to release it. We want to give Not Ready for Summer enough runway to take off first.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Not giving away the surprises just yet. Stay in touch and stay tuned…
