“‘Newspeak’ is a reference to George Orwell’s “1984”. In the novel, Newspeak is a language created for the sake of political propaganda,”says vocalist, Brendan Frey. “I wrote this from first person perspective of an individual struggling to make sense of reality despite the indoctrination and propaganda that is forced on us by our mainstream media and political figures.”
Both of the singles come from the band’s debut Self-Titled full length, which comes out today.
Frey adds, “This album has been a long time coming, but we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Each track addresses a different political or social issue that we are very passionate about. Our society can often be apathetic about major issues that affect real people. Our hope is that our message can get others to start thinking about these topics and motivate them to action.”
