Can you talk to us more about your latest single “One Of The Good Ones”?
It’s my favorite song I’ve ever put out. It’s got a little something for everyone lyrically and the energy perfectly captures the sound and style I want for all my music.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Actually I didn’t write it. 3 great friends of mine (Ross Ellis, James McNair, and my producer Chris Stevens) wrote the song. But it sounds like something I would’ve wrote, which is why I related to it so well.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We’re still kicking around concepts for it but hopefully we’ll get it out soon.
How was the recording process?
“Good Ones” was the first time me and my producer Chris Stevens have had the chance to work together so it was fun to try some new stuff with him. We knew it would set the bar for the rest of the music to come so we wanted to set it high, and I feel like we did that.
After the success of your previous work – do you get nervous while working on new material?
A little. It had been almost 2 years since the last time I put anything out and I knew I wanted to go in this new direction with the sound of my music and “Good Ones” was gonna be first introduction to that new sound. The reaction I’ve heard from the fans has been incredible and helped me shake the nerves pretty quick.
What role does Nashville play in your writing?
Huge. It’s where the music gets made. It’s where me and all my co-writers clock in every day and try to come up something people will care about.
How has Jason Aldean influence your music?
Back when Jason first came out he was taking chances stylistically that no one else was. I’ve always respected that. We’ve known each other for a few years now and he’s been a great guy to learn from and bounce things off of.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Sure does. By the end of the year I plan to release a full EP of new songs. I can’t wait for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Not yet but we’ll have one soon. We’re still really early in the process right now.
Any plans to hit the road?
Most of my focus over the last year or so has been writing and recording for this new project but I’m starting to get back on the road this summer. All the dates are found on my website.
What else is happening next in Jordan Rager’s world?
Just working hard to get music out and get back to the fans who make it all possible. I truly have a dream job and love waking up and doing it every day.
